ARMI was the idea (dream) of one of the founding members in 2002. The idea was interrupted by ‘life’ in generally but even though it was paused, it was never forgotten or completely abandoned…
ARMI was officially created in 2017 by avid, passionate aquarium hobbyists with their main objective being: sustainability of ocean resources in the longrun and preservation for future generations. Therefor we have partnered with companies who share our passion for the above principles by supplying the best hardware and livestock available by the click of a button.
We have partnered with South African National Parks (Sanparks) by assisting them with their research, wet lab facilities and educational purposes for the very endangered Knysna Seahorse (Hippocampus Capensis) who is a species of fish in the family Syngnathidae. It is endemic to the south coast of South Africa, where it has been found in only three brackish water habitats: the estuary of the Keurbooms River in Plettenberg Bay, the Knysna Lagoon, and the estuarine portion of the Swartvlei system in Sedgefield. The limited range of this seahorse puts it at great risk of extinction.
We have also partnered with Dr Frans de Graaff, Veterinary Surgeon, in saving, peforming surgery and rehabilitating of various ocean animals including Green Sea turtles (Chelonia mydas), Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), Cape Fur Seal ( Arctocephalus pusillus).
We are a very passionate team with a wealth of experience ready to be at your service.
